There are only a couple of weeks remaining in the NFL regular season. Some teams are preparing for a run at the Super Bowl while others have already been eliminated from contention and only have the offseason to look forward to.

The New York Jets have seen their championship aspirations implode due to Aaron Rodger’s Achilles injury at the beginning of the year. The team officially was knocked out of the playoff race after a loss to the Miami Dolphins over the weekend. The Jets will probably take a look at some younger and less experienced players over the final three games of the season.

Earlier this week, New York announced a series of roster moves, including the addition of former Florida State running back Jacques Patrick to its practice squad. He joins the Jets after being released by the Tennessee Titans in October. Patrick has previously had stints with the Cincinnati Bengals (2021, 2022), San Francisco 49ers (2021), Carolina Panthers (2021), and Denver Broncos (2023).

Most of his time at the NFL level has been spent contributing to the practice squad. Patrick did appear in two games with the 49ers where he rushed two times for 12 yards. He went unselected during the 2020 NFL Draft but has still been able to consistently draw interest from professional teams.

Patrick previously played in the XFL for the Tampa Bay Vipers (2020) and the San Antonio Brahmas (2023). He was among the league leaders with 443 yards and five touchdowns in ten appearances for the Brahmas last spring.

The fourth-year professional played his college career at Florida State under former head coach Jimbo Fisher and former head coach Willie Taggart. While playing alongside Dalvin Cook and Cam Akers, he totaled 366 rushes for 1,790 yards with 17 touchdowns on the ground while catching 47 passes for 356 yards and a score.

There’s a chance he gets promoted to the active roster as soon as this weekend. Third-string running back Israel Abanikanda has been limited in practice this week due to an ankle injury.
