In the wake of the Philadelphia Eagles’ 32-9 defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team’s leadership and future direction are in the spotlight. Eagles’ legend, Donovan McNabb, has stepped into the conversation, offering his insights on the OutKick podcast, ‘The Five Spot’.

McNabb’s Take on Leadership

McNabb solidly believes that head coach Nick Sirianni’s position is secure, despite the team’s disappointing season. He points instead to general maanager Howie Roseman, suggesting he might be the one to face the music. Roseman was once lauded for assembling a Super Bowl-bound team with a win-now mentality. However, with the need for adjustments to rejuvenate the team’s performance now evident, scrutiny is directed towards the general manager.

Return to Winning Strategies

In McNabb’s view, the Eagles need to re-embrace some of their past success strategies. He points to the strong running plays and efficient quarterback sacks that once made the Eagles a force to reckon with. With the potential retirement of center Jason Kelce and the roster’s aging players, including Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham, the team needs to address these critical areas.

Strengthening the Defense

Further, McNabb emphasizes the need for bolstering the defense, calling for young talent to be infused into the team. He mentions players such as Jalen Carter and Nolan Smith, who could potentially add much-needed vigor to the defense. He also underscores the importance of the running game in the Eagles’ playbook.

According to McNabb, if Roseman can successfully make the necessary roster improvements during the offseason, it will then be Sirianni’s responsibility to implement the right coaching changes. These changes, he suggests, are crucial to ensure the Eagles’ success in the 2024 season.
