The Edmonton Oilers signed forward Adam Erne to a one-year, two-way contract worth $775,000 at the NHL level, the team announced on Friday.

Erne was with the Oilers throughout training camp on a professional tryout and registered a goal during the pre-season.

Before joining Edmonton, the 28-year-old spent four seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, where he had 27 goals and 62 points. He also spent three seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning, who selected him in the second round of the 2013 NHL Draft

Yesterday was the official opening of free agency for the NHL. Lots of players got signed by the teams. The Edmonton Oilers also made four signings. They didn’t sign any of the big-money players as they didn’t have the cap space to do so.

Even though they didn’t have the cap space to get a big player, doesn’t mean the Edmonton Oilers couldn’t address some of the issues on their team.
