Brennan Johnson made a winning start to life as a Tottenham Hotspur player, and speaking after the victory over Sheffield United, the winger revealed just how happy he was with his debut.

Brennan Johnson ultimately joined Tottenham on the day of the transfer deadline after months of rumours. In a £47.5 million transfer, the Welshman left his childhood team, Nottingham Forest, for the Lilywhites (Sky Sports).

Johnson had to wait for the international break to be over before he could get a chance to turn out in a Spurs shirt, but he was handed his debut by his new manager, Ange Postecoglou, in the home tie against newly-promoted Sheffield United this afternoon.

The 22-year-old took to the field with 10 minutes of regulation play to go, and with his new team trailing 1-0 to the away side.

Thankfully, Richarlison’s goal in the 98th minute gave Spurs a victory in stoppage time. Moments later, the Brazilian changed roles and became Dejan Kulusevski’s provider, securing all three points for the North London team and dramatically turning the game around.

Brennan Johnson delighted with his debut

Even though it wasn’t simple, Brennan Johnson expressed in his post-game club interview how much he liked the game.

There aren’t many things better than that. It was a delight to be here, and today just served to highlight how much playing in games of this calibre is for me a dream come true. I’m ecstatic right now… I was a little anxious but also delighted since I knew I would have opportunities playing in a squad like this when we fall down 1-0.

“To be involved in that on my first day, is only a sign of things to come… It just shows what we are about. We never want to give up, we keep running. It was important to keep going… Everyone is fit, everyone is strong.”

On the style of play Spurs are exhibiting right now, Johnson added: “Tactically it’s a bit different to what I’ve come from, but I’m asked to stick to my position and make things happen… [The dressing room] is a good place right now, we are all excited.”

Spurs Web Opinion

If you asked any Spurs fan before the game, a win was absolutely expected against Sheffield United, but to see the team come from behind and battle like that is a really encouraging sign of what this squad is capable of. It was nice to see Johnson make his debut and he very nearly had a goal to mark it, too.
