With two straight second-place finishes in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, Sergio Perez is putting up the kind of performance required to stay with Red Bull until 2025.

With his contract expiring at the end of this season, the Mexican driver is among those under pressure this year. Should Perez have yet another subpar season, such as in 2023, Red Bull manager Christian Horner has made it apparent that he is the team’s to lose. This season, everyone will be watching Perez to see if he can make up for the mistakes of 2023 with an even better campaign. Even though Perez was driving the same car that Max Verstappen was using to obliterate the competition, he only managed to secure the runner-up spot with nine podium finishes out of 22 races.

With super-sub Liam Lawson, Yuki Tsunoda, and Daniel Ricciardo all waiting in the wings for a shot with Red Bull, Perez has a lot of pressure to perform and help the team win another title without any of the problems and mishaps from the previous campaign.

In the first two races of 2024, Perez performed admirably, finishing strong in both after making some critical overtaking passes and offering excellent support for Max Verstappen – just the kind of drive that was anticipated of him.

After the race, Fox Sports Mexico’s Diego Mejia and Alpine reserve driver Jack Doohan spoke on the F1 Nation podcast about Perez’s form and his chances of staying at Red Bull until 2025.
