A perfect start, with four wins in four games in August, meant that Enzo Maresca was awarded the EFL Coach of the Month award.

Enzo Maresca’s impeccable start to the season at Leicester City has been honored with the Coach of the Month award.

With his 100% record now gone after the weekend loss to Hull, Maresca’s first month in charge saw City win 6/6, including 4/4 in the Championship.

This earned him the EFL’s top monthly campaign award. He is the first Man City manager to win the Coach of the Month award since Claudio Ranieri in April 2016, a month before the club’s historic Premier League win.

City racked up four wins in August – against Coventry, Huddersfield, Cardiff and Rotherham – thanks to a string of late goals, with all four winners coming in the final 20 minutes. Three of those came in the last 10 minutes, with Cesare Casadei’s goal against Cardiff in injury time.

When accepting the EFL award, Maresca thanked his players and behind-the-scenes team, and said this is just the beginning for Man City.

“I’m very happy, but as happens in football, you never achieve anything on your own, you need people behind you,” he said. “First of all, the players, they are the most important people, then of course the staff behind the scenes.

“We started two months ago – a month for pre-season and a month for full play. We got off to the right start both in terms of results and the way we played. Of course, there is much more to improve, but this is the right way.

City will be hoping to regain the win in their next game against promoted rivals Southampton next Friday.
