The Birmingham City squad held a frank discussion in the dressing room after they slipped closer to the relegation zone with a late defeat to Millwall.

Japhet Tanganga scored the only goal at The Den to stretch Blues’ winless run to four games in the absence of manager Tony Mowbray. Blues are now 21st in the Championship and will slip into the relegation zone if Huddersfield Town beat West Bromwich Albion today,

Blues have two games at St Andrew’s next week to right the wrongs of the last fortnight, where they have taken one point from a possible 12. Alex Pritchard revealed the honest debrief which took place post-match yesterday during an interview with BBC WM.

“You have to realise the situation we are in,” said Pritchard. “At this present time we have got 10 games and everyone is fighting for their career – boys who are in contract, boys who are out of contract – and we just spoke about it in the dressing room.

You don’t want to be associated with a relegation. We realise what’s in store and we have to compete and give it our all until the end of the season.

“We’ve got 10 cup finals to play. That’s the reality, everyone has got to get their heads round it and play their part. The fans came in their numbers today, fair play to them, and we haven’t given them anything.”
