Mark Venus has revealed Siriki Dembele missed Birmingham City’s defeat to Middlesbrough on Tuesday evening due to an injury.

The Ivorian winger wasn’t named among the substitutes after suffering a foot injury and watched on as Riley McGree settled an uneventful encounter at St Andrew’s. Blues’ fourth defeat in five games leaves them 21st in the Championship, one point above the relegation zone ahead of Saturday’s clash with Watford.

Explaining Dembele’s absence, Venusaid: “He’s got an injury. He’s got some stitches in his foot through a clash. I don’t know how long he will be out but he’s got a few stitches in his foot.”
