The big defender decided to quit Parkhead this summer for a new challenge as Brendan Rodgers allowed the stopper to make the move to La Liga from the Scottish champions.

Carl Starfelt is off the mark for Celta Vigo as he netted his first La Liga goal since leaving Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers lost the defender this summer as the Scottish champions cashed in by selling the stopper to Spain. He had struck up a key relationship at the heart of the Hoops’ backline alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers under former boss Ange Postecoglou but his transfer hasn’t been felt with the emergence of Liam Scales this campaign after he stepped up to the plate during a defensive injury crisis and hasn’t ever looked back with the Republic of Ireland international now a first name on the team sheet.

Since arriving in Spain, Starfelt has been a key player for Celta under Rafa Benitez. He’s played every single minute of the last 11 league matches and has already came up against Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid in his short stint so far. But last night was his first goal for his new club as he lost his marker from a deep free-kick to diving header the ball home.

On his exit from Celtic, a club statement explained: “After two full seasons with Celtic, Carl Starfelt has left the club to join La Liga side RC Celta. The Swedish central defender joined the Hoops in July 2021 from Rubin Kazan and played 87 times for the Hoops, scoring three times.
