Unbowed Graeme Souness insists he’s full of belief in Rangers after watching them up close in their pulsating 2-1 defeat to rivals Celtic.

And the 72-year-old is utterly convinced Philippe Clement is building an Ibrox team to be reckoned with but believes added firepower is needed to deny their fierce foes a 12th Scottish Premiership in the last 13 years.

The former Ibrox player and manager helped hire the Belgian and was left in no doubt Rangers under his guidance are an emerging force after taking his seat at Celtic Park last Saturday. Wolves’ £35m forward Fabio Silva has arrived on loan and the Light Blues have been linked with the likes of Emmanuel Dennis

Souness is backing blue but the beloved football hero admits the atmosphere generated by partisan Parkhead regulars was something special with no away fans in attendance due to the ongoing tiff between the Glasgow giants over briefs for visiting supporters. Speaking in his Daily Mail column, he said: “What an atmosphere it was at Celtic Park last Saturday. I was there for the Old Firm derby and I swear there is none to match it anywhere in the world. Rangers will be disappointed to have lost 2-1 but acquitted themselves very well throughout even when they went down to 10 men. The best chances fell to them.
