Ipswich Town duo Dane Scarlett and Cieran Slicker both earned caps at under-21 level this yesterday evening.

Scarlett was named on the bench as England travelled to Luxembourg in EURO U21 qualifying, coming on in the 63rd minute of the Young Lions’ 3-0 win to make his debut at under-21 level. Liam Delap, Callum Doyle and Cole Palmer all found the back of the net as Lee Carsley’s side started their campaign with three points.

Slicker picked up his ninth cap for Scotland under-21’s, starting in goal as they were beaten 1-0 by Spain at the Estadio de La Victoria in the same competition. The goalkeeper stood tall under immense pressure in the latter stages, but a well-delivered corner from FC Barcelona’s Pablo Torre set up Benat Turrientes for a simple header to win the match in the 83rd minute.

Elsewhere, Nathan Broadhead was an unused sub for Wales, who kept their hopes of qualifying for EURO 2024 alive with a 2-0 victory against Latvia in Riga. A foul from Kaspars Dubra on Harry Wilson saw the Dragons given a penalty in the 29th minute, which captain Aaron Ramsey calmly tucked away.

David Brooks then capped off the win, scoring deep into stoppage time to give Rob Page’s men all three points. They now sit behind Armenia on goal difference alone, but still have to make up a three-point deficit on Turkey or Croatia to stand a chance of qualifying for next summer’s tournament.

The trio will now return to Suffolk after completing their international duty, with Sam Morsy and Elkan Baggott the only two Town players left to play this week.
