Nigeria national team strikers Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho have been shortlisted for Leicester City’s Goal of the Month award for August 2023.

The Foxes selected the 8 best goals at all levels, including the Nigerian national team.

While Ndidi is nominated for his match against Burton Albion in the first round of the League Cup, Iheanacho’s opening match against the same opponents on August 9 is in the running for the monthly award.

After six minutes of play at the Pirelli Stadium, Iheanacho opened the season with an audacious backheel from Marc Albrighton’s cross.

And in the injury time of the first half, the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup Golden Ball winner turned scorer into a passer when he beat the offside trap and kicked into the net for Ndidi, who scored for the first time. To win the award, the Nigerian duo will face competition from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Stephy Mavididi, Amani Richards, Zach Booth, Wanya Marçal and Kasey McAteer.

Ndidi and Iheanacho’s performances against São Tomé and Príncipe will remain fresh in the minds of Super Eagles fans, as both players assisted Nigeria’s second and third goals in the 6-1 win. -0.

They are expected to leave the King Power Stadium during the summer transfer window, but are expected to stay at the club until at least January 2024.
