Conor Gallagher, a midfielder for Chelsea, was linked to Tottenham Hotspur earlier this summer.

The 23-year-old was frequently mentioned as a potential transfer target outside of Stamford Bridge, and Spurs were apparently keeping an eye on him.

Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Tottenham have not made an official move to sign the midfielder from Chelsea as they are unable to get rid of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

The 28-year-old Dane is believed to be leaving Tottenham this summer and Atletico Madrid are said to be interested in the player. However, negotiations never resulted in a move and Tottenham also had to move away from Gallagher.

Spurs are already well positioned in midfield and are still unlikely to sign Gallagher without selling someone first.

The Chelsea midfielder will now look to establish himself as a key player for Mauricio Pochettino in the coming months. Despite playing enough time at Stamford Bridge last season, he was not a starter for the Blues. Gallagher hopes to keep a regular starting position at Chelsea this season.

The 23-year-old was coveted by a number of Premier League clubs this summer, and if Tottenham had been successful in landing him, he would have been an excellent addition.

In the coming future, it will be intriguing to watch whether Tottenham decides to revive a move for Gallagher.

Hojbjerg, meantime, has been linked with a departure ever since Ange Postecoglou arrived, and it’s thought that he might not fit the Australian’s style of play.
