The Zambian Football Association (Faz) announced on Sunday that Justin Shonga, a former forward for the Orlando Pirates and Zambia, passed away in Lusaka.

Faz posted a brief message on X, the former Twitter, confirming the news. “Justin Shonga, a former forward for Chipolopolo, passed away. In an interview with the FAZ Media Team, Dan Mwale, the deputy spokesperson for the Zambian police, provided confirmation. After a brief illness, Shonga passed away at Sikanze Police Hospital, according to Mwale. More information will become available eventually. Shonga had 27 years old.

Shonga was plying his trade in the Saudi Arabian third division club Narjan, at the time of his death. However, as recently as Friday the player was linked with a move to United Arab Emirates club Al Wahda was reportedly interested in securing the services of the youngster.

It was also believed that Chippa United were interested in signing Shonga.
