Aston Villa news from BirminghamLive as Gary Lineker and Micah Richards reflect on the win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge

Gary Lineker has congratulated Aston Villa on their “huge” Premier League win over Chelsea.

Villa won 1-0 at Stamford Bridge on Sunday thanks to Ollie Watkins’ 73rd minute goal. Big-spending Chelsea, who were sent off by Malo Gusto, are in 14th place after picking up just five points from their opening six matches of the season, while Unai Emery’s side are in sixth place.

Villa bounced back from their shock Europa Conference League defeat to Leiga Warsaw in Poland to put more pressure on new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino. The home fans clearly expressed their emotions when the final whistle sounded accompanied by boos. Lineker and former Villa player Micah Richards discussed the match on The Rest Is Football podcast. Match of the Day presenter Lineker said:

“Chelsea, another loss at home. Aston Villa did very well, they won a great win, away of course, but they (Chelsea) couldn’t score the goal. They were spent over a billion pounds!”
