Castles  met with the media after Tennessee’s Citrus Bowl practice Monday morning at Anderson Training Center, and the senior tight end had plenty to say. Castles, who transferred to Tennessee from FCS program UC Davis for his final season of college football, has been productive for the Vols. The 6-foot-5, 252-pound California native added 20 pounds of muscle in the offseason to cope with line-of-scrimmage life at the SEC level, and he quickly became an important cog for the Vols catching at least one pass in 11 of the team’s 12 regular-season games.

Following his four-touchdown regular season with Tennessee, Castles never had any doubts about opting into the bowl game and playing one more game with his “brothers” and for head coach  offensive coordinator and tight ends coach  He and the rest of the 21st-ranked Vols will play 17th-ranked Iowa on New Year’s Day in Orland..

“Yeah, I think it’s a little bit more exciting. And it’s kind of nice, because you kind of get the opportunity to get the young guys more involved and develop them a little bit, so they get a lot more reps. So they’re definitely more excited ’cause they’re not playing scout team and actually repping our offense and defense. So the energy gets a little bit up there, and you get some good stuff out there.” “I mean, it’s a whole new world out here for football, from where I came from. It’s insane. And, I mean, I’m super grateful to be here and even get the opportunity to be out here, and for my family to be out here and enjoy with me it was something else. Like, I truly love being in the state at Tennessee and playing football here.

“I think it’s just everybody’s … all the stuff outside of the field has blown over. Now it’s kind of just locking into who we are and just start practicing and getting that competitive edge going again. This week, we’ve got, like, a normal slate of practices, so we’re just kind of getting back into our rhythm. “Yeah, I think it’s a little bit more exciting. Now it’s kind of just locking into who we are and just start practicing and getting that competitive edge going again. This week, we’ve got, like, a normal slate of practices, so we’re just kind of getting back into our rhythm  I think just by coaching him up on every rep. Whenever he comes off, he looks at me and [Warren] and asks like, ‘What do you think? What would you do? What did you think of the rep?’ And I think his biggest thing is just, like, realizing that he’s gonna have to do it all next year, and so he needs to be mentally prepared to [understand], like, there’s gonna be success and failures. I think that’s the one thing is, like, you can see some reps when he doesn’t get it — and I can relate to this — is he gets frustrated with it if he’s not doing it right. And it’s like, ‘Dude, you’ve got a whole calendar year to get ready. Like, you’re gonna be alright, just keep working on your stuff, and you’ll get there.’ It’s pretty similar in the run game, which is funny, because it’s something that he hasn’t done it that much, and it’s something I didn’t do a whole lot. So he’s kind of like me. It’s so similar, to where it’s like, you can tell it gets frustrating. It’s like, ‘Dude, you haven’t done that for that long, like you’re gonna get there. Don’t worry about it.
