He has been one of golf’s greatest mysteries: the first American to achieve a feat on the PGA Tour since Tiger Woods who vanished from the professional game without a trace.

Twelve years on, social media can relax: the riddle that is Anthony Kim has been solved.

Yet when Norman’s Saudi dollars are around, well, money is no object.

It’s not that Kim isn’t blessed with ability: he was the first American under 25 to win on the PGA Tour twice in a season since Woods when he achieved the feat in 2008 and then went on to finish third in the 2010 Masters.

Australian Robert Allenby once accused Kim of partying until 4am before a Presidents Cup singles match in 2009. Allenby said his friends saw Kim “come in sideways”. Kim went on to crush Allenby 5 & 3 later that day.

If LIV wanted eyeballs for their next event in Jeddah, starting on Friday (AEDT), then Kim will guarantee them.

He will play as a wildcard for the rest of the season, not attached to any team and will peg it up alongside the likes of Australia’s Cameron Smith, Masters hero Jon Rahm and five-time major winner Brooks Koepka.

Eleven years off is a long time,” Kim said. “It’s been a long time coming, and I’m very grateful for all the highs, lows and lessons learned from the first part of my career.

“I want to compete with the best players in the world, and I’m on a mission to prove to myself that I can win again. The next step on that journey starts now, and I’m excited to give everything I’ve got this season on the LIV Golf league.
