Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur has been answering a lot of injury questions this season. One of the most concerning is the back injury that has kept Jaire Alexander out of a couple of games. When asked this week, LaFleur gave an unwelcome update on the star cornerback.

Green Bay Packers Matt LaFleur On Jaire Alexander

All of LaFleur’s answers are non-answers. He answered a question with, “I’m certainly not an expert on backs and don’t wanna pretend to be,” and followed it up by answering another question with, “I mean, it’s a back. So.” This is not what Packers fans want to hear. There are already so many injuries, especially in the secondary that having Alexander back on the field would be a huge boost. However, this answer seems to indicate that Alexander is day-to-day and most likely will be for the rest of the season. Back injuries tend to stick around and be a nuisance all season.

Decimated Secondary

Eric Stokes, who filled in when Alexander missed time during his rookie season, is back on IR along with safety Darnell Savage. If Alexander is out, that leaves Rasul Douglas with some rookies at corner. Keisean Nixon likely stays as the nickel and Jonathan Owens and Rudy Ford will be the safeties. This is not the ideal starting lineup to go against the Vikings’ passing attack with. However, the NFL is a “next man up” league. Every team is dealing with injuries and the Packers have to find a way to disrupt what Kirk Cousins and the offense are going to try and do.

Alexander’s availability will be something to watch going forward. If the team continues to struggle, it will be interesting to see what they decide to do with the 26-year-old.
