Celtic find themselves in an interesting position right now. They lead the league table by a comfortable seven points already despite the fact that most people recognise that they have been nowhere near their best this season till now and there seem to be more gears that this team could go through over the coming months of the campaign, as they come to grips with Brendan Rodgers’ style of football.

There are expected to be more additions in the January transfer window as well. To be honest, their summer additions were not quite headline-grabbers and a bit disappointing.

One move that would grab a lot of headlines though is if Celtic were able to bring back Jota. It was just this summer that the superstar from Portugal left Parkhead in order to join Al-Ittihad.

But things have gone wrong for Jota there. He is not part of Al-Ittihad’s squad for the league campaign. And he is already being linked with a move away, including a potential return to Celtic in January. Let’s see what the future holds.

Former Celtic player shows class amid return rumours

Despite his lack of activity, Jota is continuing to show his class. As reported by Football Scotland, he was brought in from the cold for this evening’s friendly against Al-Wehda and scored the winner for his team.

Of course, a winning goal in a friendly game might not seem very important. But it does send a message to his coach about what the team is missing with him being left out.

Could Jota make a return to Celtic in the future? It does feel a bit unlikely. But at the same time, never say never in football. He should not have any lack of opportunities though, especially if he becomes available as a free agent.
