While talking about his new life at Bayern Munich, Harry Kane made a veiled jab at Tottenham Hotspur’s mentality.

Kane, 30, signed a four-year contract with the Bundesliga powerhouses in August, bringing an end to his 19-year career at Spurs. The move cost £100 million.

With three league outings under his belt, the England captain has had a productive start to life in Germany, scoring three goals and dishing out one assist. Thomas Tuchel’s team is currently second in the standings, trailing Bayer Leverkusen on goal differential.

While on international duty, Kane spoke on the disparity between Tottenham and Bayern’s expectations, acknowledging that there was “different pressure” at the Allianz Arena.

It’s definitely a different pressure compared to what I felt at Spurs,” he said during a press conference ahead of England’s Euro 2024 qualifying clash against Ukraine.

“Of course we wanted to win things at Spurs but if you went a couple of games without winning then it wasn’t a disaster. The feeling at Bayern is that you have to win every game. We won the first two games 4-0 and 3-1 and there was still talk about not being too happy about the way we played.

That’s part and parcel of being at one of the biggest clubs in the world. But we’ve had a good start and I’m enjoying feeling those different emotions and that’s part of the reason that I wanted to go.

“And we start the Champions League campaign when we get back, which they expect to win – or have a good chance of winning. So you’re going into those games with maybe a different feeling to what I’ve had in the past.”

Many supporters may have been left surprised with how Spurs have coped in the absence of Kane so far, with the north London club currently second in the Premier League table under the guidance of Ange Postecoglou.

However, a penalty shootout defeat to Fulham in the opening round of the EFL Cup saw their first chance at silverware slip away.

Harry Kane went ‘against the norm’ during Bayern Munich transfer talks

Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has revealed that Harry Kane went ‘against the norm’ during transfer talks as he secured a move away from Tottenham.

Kane called time on his career in the Premier League as he signed for the German giants in a deal potentially worth up to £104 million.

The 30-year-old suffered heartbreak on his debut as his side lost 3-0 to RB Leipzig in the DFL Supercup final.

However, he’s scored three goals in his side’s opening two Bundesliga games, scoring on his league debut.

But Kane was impressing the club’s bosses before he even moved to Bayern, with Rummenigge discussing the transfer, revealing the star forward went ‘against the norm’ during talks.

The 67-year-old said Kane was eager to negotiate a switch to Bayern, claiming he would reply to messages within just two minutes.

“We all agreed in our transfer committee from day one that we wanted to make this transfer,” he said.

“Everyone then had their job, and mine was to keep in touch with Harry a lot.

“I talked to him a lot and immediately realized what a good guy he is.

“I had the first contact when he was still on vacation in the Bahamas.”

Rummenigge added: “I wrote him that I would like to talk to him on the phone and he – as always later – answered within just two minutes, which is not the norm in the WhatsApp messenger world either.

“I said to him, ‘We will do everything to make this transfer happen, because we all believe that you are the most important man in the entire transfer market for us’.”

Rummenigge also told Kane about his own experience of leaving Bayern for Inter Milan in 1984, drawing comparisons with the England star’s situation at Spurs.

“I also told him about my own transfer to Inter Milan in 1984,” he said.

I had everything at FC Bayern, I was practically the king with a large court, but I still wanted to gain this new experience abroad and then told him that it wasn’t an easy transfer for me either.”
