Harry Kane opted to leave Tottenham and take up a new challenge with Bayern Munich and the forward insists adding a host of trophies was not his sole motivation.

Harry Kane asserts that the “main reason” he left Tottenham was to challenge himself in a new setting rather than just to collect awards

Given how close he was to breaking the Premier League goalscoring record, many were astonished when the forward decided to join Bayern Munich only a few weeks ago. Kane is ready to spend several years in Germany at the age of 30, when his abilities are at their height.

He had established himself as one of the top attackers in the world during the course of his entire time at Tottenham, but his efforts for the north Londoners went unrewarded. Kane is anticipated to receive awards at the Allianz Arena, but he didn’t only leave to collect awards.

“That was pretty much the main reason [for leaving Spurs]. People talk a lot about trophies and of course I want to win trophies. But that’s not the only reason I came to Bayern Munich. I felt like I needed to win. ” play at the highest level if I want to eventually improve.

“If I want to compete with the best strikers and the best players in the world, I have to play in the Champions League and fight for titles. I just feel like last season went well for me personally [he scored 30 league goals] but as a team Spurs didn’t. I felt it was time to take the next step and take on another challenge. What I feel most since being at Bayern Munich is pressure. It’s not just a desire to win; We must win.”

Kane missed out on his first chance of silverware as the Bavarians were surprisingly beaten in the German Super Cup, but the England star has helped Thomas Tuchel’s side win their opening four games, scoring in home and away wins as he begins to justify his hefty fee.

Kane, who has watched a number of his international team members win trophies, some frequently, was lured away from Tottenham by Bayern for a club-record price. Before Kyle Walker decided to leave for Manchester City in 2017, the two of them lived in north London.

Six years later and Walker now has five Premier League titles, two FA Cups and a Champions League to show following his move to the Etihad. Kane admits, that while he’s happy for his mates, it hurt to see them celebrating while he still waits for that feeling.

“As a competitor, when the boys are playing the Champions League and I am just sitting at home watching it, I would be lying if I said there wasn’t a part of me that hurt,” Kane added.
