According to Alasdair Gold, Cristian Romero is’mad’ in training for Tottenham Hotspur, just like his teammate Erik Lamela.

According to the Football London journalist’s own YouTube channel, Cristian Romero has replaced Erik Lamela as the guy that Tottenham players used to “hate” playing against.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to hear for Spurs fans that Romero is no-nonsense in training because he showcases that out on the pitch on a weekly basis.

That style of play has made Romero a fan favourite, not just with Spurs supporters, but also when he is donning the Argentina colours.

The 25-year-old played a key role in his country winning the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and he is still performing strong after a healthy showing over the international break.

Not forgetting that he has helped Spurs and new boss Ange Postecoglou to an unbeaten start this season.

Cristian Romero in Tottenham training

“They used to hate training against Lamela,” said Gold. “They all had to wear shinpads and everything. Romero, I get the impression, isn’t any different.

“I have seen Romero training. I have seen him launching in. He doesn’t care. He is just a bit mad when it comes to football, although, he hasn’t conceded a single foul.”

Romero is one of Tottenham’s most important players

There have been a fair few changes to Tottenham’s defensive structure this summer, including Eric Dier, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Hugo Lloris being frozen out by Ange Postecoglou.

That’s a lot of senior players being put aside, but it now puts more responsibility on the shoulders of the likes of Romero.

As of this moment, things are going pretty well, but the real test will come when Tottenham take a few blows because that’s where there isn’t much of a response from the team.
