Fortuna Dusseldorf midfielder Ao Tanaka surely will be fuming after his failed move to Leeds United in the summer transfer window.

The Japan international was understood to be one of the options the Whites considered diligently until the end of the market.

However, they went for other options eventually, leaving the 25-year-old in Germany.

Tanaka is not getting enough playing time at the club, according to Express in Germany on Monday, September 18th.

Despite being one of Japan’s better World Cup players, he has dropped down the pecking order and is now a reserve option.

Tanaka might have been signed by Leeds if Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara hadn’t signed with the club.

According to Bild, the Whites submitted a £3.1 million proposal for the Japanese midfielder on September 12.

It also claims that they were the only side that did make an offer so the deal was certainly there to be done for Leeds and Tanaka.

Whether or not they made the right decision remains to be seen but Tanaka certainly will be left unhappy as he could’ve been a regular starter in England.

As of now, Daniel Farke will not be losing sleep over this as his Leeds side showed over the weekend why they’re a force to be reckoned with this season.
