Craig Moore believes former Rangers team-mate Kevin Muscat is a great option to replace Mick Beale at Ibrox after Ange Postecoglou stayed at Yokohama F Marino.

Rangers fans know all too well that the idea of a new manager building on the foundations laid by his predecessor doesn’t always go as planned. Steven Gerrard led the unbeaten Gers to the Scottish Premiership title in 2021 – scoring 102 points – before the club finished 13 points worse off under Giovanni van Bronckhorst 12 months later.

So while some still downplay Kevin Muscat’s success in Asia – the former Rangers favorite took over from Ange Postecoglou to lead Yokohama F Marinos to the J-League title and Japan Super Cup – Moore is having none of it.

Kevin Muscat is a candidate for Rangers manager

“He’s a great friend of mine. I’ve been an admirer of his work for a while. He went to Japan and did a fantastic job,” the former Gers skipper told Go Radio.

“People here don’t understand that he has a team that was Ange’s team and they think it’s easy. But they have the ninth biggest budget in the J-League – an average budget.

“He won the league and the equivalent of the Charity Shield. He lost six or seven players over the summer who had to be replaced from within. So he’s hitting massively.”

Muscat has emerged as the leading candidate to take Beale’s place in the Ibrox dugout, not just in terms of results. Moore is convinced the former Australian international can also bring an exciting, eye-catching approach back to Glasgow’s blue side. Beale’s football was sometimes prescribed in his final weeks in the Hotseat as a cure for insomnia. “Recreational Soccer”

“(Muscat’s) teams play fun football, score goals and create,” Moore added. “I think he’s a great choice for Rangers.”

According to The Telegraph, AZ Alkmaar coach Pascal Janssen, former Monaco coach Philippe Clement and former Chelsea coach Frank Lampard are also being considered.
