Tottenham Hotspur coach Wayne Burnett has said that Alejo Veliz showed in his 30-minute cameo for Tottenham’s Under-21s on Wednesday just why he is so highly thought of.

Veliz made an outstanding start to his professional career in the Argentine top flight before leaving Rosario Central for Tottenham in a £12 million transfer.

Ange Postecoglou admitted last month that the striker is not likely to see any first team minutes during his first few months at the club, indicating that Spurs view the 20-year-old as a player for the future rather than a ready-made product (Fabrizio Romano).

The Argentine came on for his Tottenham Under-21 debut on Wednesday at Colchester with 28 minutes left on the clock, with the Lilywhites cruising with a 5-0 lead.

Despite the fact that Veliz was held without a goal, Alasdair Gold of Football.London noted in his match analysis that the center-forward was a handful due to his great movement and physicality.

Burnett responded to Spurs Play when asked about the debutant’s performance, saying: “The first team wanted Ale [Veliz] to play, it was a premeditated 30 minutes. He is undoubtedly an interesting potential since you can see his ability and the runs he makes.

Veliz will need a few matches to get up to work his way up to fitness and to get accustomed to a new style of football. While the youngster looks quite confident, it would not be fair to judge him until he has had at least six months to adapt to his new surroundings both on and off the pitch.
