According to reports, Frank Lampard is one of the applicants for the open Lyon position.

Laurent Blanc, the manager of Lyon, was fired on Monday with the team at the bottom of Ligue 1.

The Lyon management finally had enough when Blanc’s former team, Paris Saint-Germain, defeated them 4-1 at home.

In the end, Blanc left Lyon by “mutual agreement” after the team had only earned one point in their first four games of the year and had the lowest goal differential in Ligue 1.

After the 57-year-old was named Lyon’s manager in October of last year, the team finished the previous campaign in seventh place, outside of the Ligue 1 playoff spots. Since leaving PSG at the conclusion of the 2015–16 season, it was the former France manager’s first managing position back in his home nation.

Blanc, however, averaged just 1.53 points per game, the lowest of any regular Lyon manager over the previous 25 years, with the exception of Sylvinho, who managed the team for nine league games.

On an interim basis, the first team will be managed by technical director Jean-Francois Vulliez.

Lyon is also reportedly considering hiring Lampard as their new manager, according to 90min.

The former Chelsea manager has been connected with the Eagles on numerous occasions in recent years, and John Textor, who is also a minority owner of Crystal Palace, is known to have great respect for Lampard.

Since the conclusion of last season, when Mauricio Pochettino took over as caretaker manager of Chelsea, Lampard has been without a job.

The 45-year-old’s tenure as a manager has been turbulent; he was fired from Everton in January as the Toffees battled relegation to the Championship.

In addition, he managed Chelsea for just nine games last season, winning one and drawing two.

Lampard, however, claimed a top-four finish with the Blues during a previous tenure as manager and, in spite of a transfer ban, guided the team to the FA Cup final.
