Rio Ferdinand has reflected on Tottenham’s match against Liverpool over the weekend and admitted he would be angry about one of the decisions.

The match was controversial, with Luis Diaz’s goal wrongly ruled out as offside by VAR officials. Curtis Jones was also given a red as was Diogo Jota, but luckily Destiny Udogi was also not sent off.

And on tonight’s podcast, Ferdinand admitted he would have been furious as a Spurs player had Jones not been sent off for his tackle on Yves Bissouma.

Rio Ferdinand backs Tottenham over Curtis Jones’ red card

Speaking on his YouTube channel FIVE, Ferdinand said of Jones’ red card: “The wording of the law is: If you lose control of your body. So he went over the ball, but was he out of control? I can understand why you would get a red card. If you were in the team and didn’t get a red card, you’d be crazy,” Ferdinand said.

no complaints

Gary Neville said after the match that he did not think it was necessarily a red card and that a different decision could have been made. But it’s actually red.

Jones lunged in and then when he went over the ball, he was always going to catch the man and that’s exactly what happened with Bissouma.

On another day, the Tottenham man might have had his leg broke and while the stills and slow-mos do make things look even worse, it’s still a bad tackle.

Ferdinand is right here. The Tottenham players would have in their rights to be fuming had Jones stayed on the field and in the end, the right decision was made.

Once again, though, we are talking at length about VAR decisions, instead of the actual game.
