The most recent Leicester City news shows that while City now leads the Championship, Southampton will be trying to snap a streak of four straight league losses when they play Leeds.

Russell Martin, the manager of Southampton, tried to explain the gap between the team’s season-opening performance and Leicester City’s early transfer activity.

Prior to this weekend’s games, City, which has had a strong start to the season, is leading the Championship table. Since the summer, when Enzo Maresca was hired as coach, they havewon seven of their last eight league games.

Other significant changes at Seagrave included a number of players who joined and left the team in addition to the Italian’s arrival. Harry Winks and Conor Coady, who have both represented England, were City’s first two new hires over the summer.

Winks has established himself as a major member of the team this year in the base of the midfield, and Coady made his club debut this week after overcoming a foot injury sustained during preseason. Martin has made reference to the fact that both players were signed early in the transfer window.

Southampton has suffered four successive league defeats, one of which came against City earlier this month. Martin cited the clubs’ transfer activities when asked about comparisons between his team City and Leeds.

Put things in perspective; Leicester completed a lot of their work early, and the players they bought were extremely different, he stated in the pre-game press conference. “They chose two players with significant character and experience who had represented England. They were probably signed as much for that as for their talent, in my opinion.

Less variation on the field; prior to playing us, they had essentially played the same team for a considerable amount of time; we haven’t been able to do that. This is not an excuse.

Leeds once more completed a lot of work a little before us. We rely on three to four players to be in shape throughout league games…We should still be performing better, but it’s a fact that we’re paying a little bit of a price for that.

The match between Southampton and Leeds United is scheduled for Saturday at 12.30 p.m. at St. Mary’s. Leeds wants to make it seven games without a loss in the league, and Southampton wants to snap its losing streak.
