We are delighted to welcome trauma expert Dr. Rajpal Brar as our exclusive columnist. Each week he will give his view on the injury situation at Leeds United…

According to doctor Rajpal Brar, Leeds United defender Junior Firpo is still likely to be sidelined for several weeks despite returning to individual training after a knee injury.

Daniel Farke recently revealed that the former Barcelona full-back returned to private training on September 18 and is therefore recovering well.

However, the injury specialist always sees him a few weeks before returning and will probably play the full 90 minutes of a match.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, physiotherapist and sports scientist Brar said of Firpo:

“From what I have read, he probably had difficulty recovering from a knee injury, which led to a hip injury.

It’s not out of the ordinary as the body is challenged and has to adapt to new training loads.

“His path to returning will be the same principles – continue to progressively build strength, control, and conditioning and assess how he responds as he gradually returns to training.

“He still seems a few weeks away from returning and being ready to play 90 minutes.”

Firpo has had rotten luck with injuries since his move to Elland Road and has gone down as one of the worst signings of the Marcelo Bielsa era.

He arrived when the club desperately needed a solid left-back to replace Gjanni Alioski and he seemed to be an attacking option, ideal for Bielsa.

However, that move has not panned out and his lack of form and recurring injuries and been two major deterrents.
