Tottenham Hotspur playmaker James Maddison has heaped praise on defender Micky van de Ven following the win over Liverpool.

Micky van de Ven was hailed as a ‘machine’ after his performance for Tottenham Hotspur against Liverpool

This was an action-packed and ultimately very controversial game a Liverpool felt pretty much robbed in North London.

Curtis Jones received a straight red card, Luis Diaz was caught offside and Diogo Jota received his marching orders after the break.

It seemed like Liverpool would escape with a 1-1 draw, but their bodies were in danger, but the story had a late twist.

Pedro Porro’s cross was smashed into his own net by Joel Matip, giving Tottenham a dramatic last-minute win.

James Maddison was full of praise for Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven

Liverpool clearly feel very uncomfortable, but very, very few Tottenham fans will care in the slightest.

Spurs fans went absolutely crazy when Matip found the back of the net, continuing his strong start under Ange Postecoglou. A key part of the Angeball revolution is defender Micky van de Ven, who arrived from Wolfsburg in a £43m deal in the summer.

The Dutchman has been extremely impressive in the early stages of his career at Tottenham, showing outstanding speed in defense as well as confidence when playing defensively.

Van de Ven impressed against Liverpool and he took to Instagram to celebrate his vital three points amid a “crazy” atmosphere.

Playmaker James Maddison responded by saying “fuck you, you’re a machine” as he continued to be impressed by Van de Ven’s impact.

Van de Ven stats v Liverpool

Saturday’s performance will have been even sweeter for Spurs given that Liverpool were heavily linked with Van de Ven over the summer.

The Reds didn’t make their move and it’s all for Spurs’ gain now with Van de Ven turning in a strong performance.

This wasn’t one of the most impressive displays from a statistical point of view; one clearance, two tackles and no aerial duels won.

Van de Ven will have bigger days statistically, but they can’t really capture how quick he is on the cover and how he can kickstart Tottenham attacks.

We saw that on Saturday and it’s clear that his teammates are impressed too amid praise from Maddison.
