Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones seems more willing to bend to the sport of soccer than he does to own football players. The Cowboys home football stadium, AT&T Stadium, owned by Jones, will be a host for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Jerry Jones’s stadium needs grass for 2026

Per the Dallas Morning News, organizers of FIFA met with the brass who operate AT&T Stadium this week. Heimo Schirgi, FIFA’s chief operating officer, said part of the meeting had to do with coming up with a solution so the stadium will have a natural grass surface through the entire World Cup.

(AT&T has hosted soccer events played on grass before. However, the World Cup event will be a much longer event.)

The DMN report has a quote from a Cowboys higher-up stating they plan to use grass for the event:

“For the first time ever, we will have a system to grow the grass during the time period of the event, and that is very different from how we did it when had other events,” Cowboys executive V.P. of business operations Chad Estis said. “We have a whole team working alongside FIFA. We are confident that we will have a very good field for the event.”

Per the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Jones’ stadium must add an expensive grow light system.
