According to the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool is considering a January transfer for Fluminense midfielder as Jurgen Klopp continues to upgrade his midfield.

Jordan Henderson, the former captain of the Reds, and Brazilian midfielder Fabinho, who transferred to Saudi Arabia early last month, were among the five senior midfielders the team lost last summer. After their contracts expired, Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain left as unrestricted free agents.

Following the signing of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, and Ryan Gravenberch, Klopp added four midfielders during the summer transfer window.

Despite Liverpool reaching agreements with Brighton and Southampton, respectively, and Moises Caicedo joining Chelsea in high-profile deals, the Merseysiders were unable to sign either player.

Andre was on Liverpool’s radar when they were forced to explore elsewhere. There was a lot of talk about the Brazilian midfielder moving to Anfield. Fluminense, who were hesitant to sell him in the summer, rejected the Premier League club’s initial approach of £26 million.

The Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A lasts for one calendar year, and the Brazilian club insisted that Andre would not be traded mid-season.

The club president Mario Bittencour stated, “We are not going to mislead anyone. We have to make sales, but I can assure that it will not be Andre.

“We won’t put Andre up for sale in the middle of the year.

We even discussed his contract renewal. Our director of football, Angioni, is negotiating with his advisors. We have no requests or proposals for any player. But Andre won’t be the player who can be sold.

Still interested

Liverpool still has interest in Andre despite their failure to complete the transaction in the summer. The Liverpool Echo reports that since Thiago Alcantara will be leaving at the end of the current campaign, Klopp may try to sign the South American as a potential replacement.

Since Alcantara only has one year left on his deal and is currently set to go for free next summer, Liverpool is already making plans to add a new midfielder to their roster.

The Brazilian international’s transfer in January appears more plausible, and the Reds might make another offer when the transfer window reopens. Andre is recognised as one of Brazil’s top midfielders and has led Fluminense to the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals.
