After choosing to remain at Everton after the transfer deadline, Demarai Grey has spoken out about his missed opportunities to leave the club.

Fabrizio Romano reported on September 3 that the Jamaican international expressed his best wishes to the Everton supporters but also blasted the team for not treating him with “respect as a person.”

According to Alan Myers (1 September), the former Leicester City player was the subject of a Saudi Arabian club’s offer, but the Toffees decided against approving the transfer.

Grey remarked: “The Everton supporters have always been wonderful to me, but it’s so hard to play for people who don’t respect you as a person.”

Tension

Players rarely have good intentions when they openly criticise their employer.

In spite of ongoing rumours that he’ll move to Saudi Arabia during the transfer season, Grey obviously does not want his future to be in Merseyside.

Since their market doesn’t end until September 7, The Daily Mail stated (1 September) that Saudi teams would continue to pursue European players after the transfer window closed across the continent.

This might give Grey hope that he can still make a move, and making a statement like this is probably his way of putting pressure on the Everton administration to fire him.

The winger, who was born in Birmingham, is yet to play for the team this year, and Sean Dyche’s team has had a difficult start to the campaign.

While their first goal and point were obtained on Saturday, September 2, at Bramall Lane, Grey seemed to no longer want to be associated with the team.

With his assertion that the hierarchy treated him disrespectfully, Grey has alluded to some underlying problems. The future of Grey is uncertain, but after two seasons as a Toffee, the Goodison Park faithful might have seen the last of him.

In other Everton news, a Sky Sports analyst was impressed by one of the Toffees’ players during their 2-2 draw with Sheffield United in the Premier League.
