The Kansas City Chiefs have been rumored to be interested in a reunion with former offensive offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy as early as this postseason. We’ll look at a potential trade the Chiefs could pull off with the Washington Commanders to send Bieniemy to Kansas City this week.

Per GH files, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said Bieniemy’s leadership was a major reason for the team’s success in previous seasons. Mahomes comments indicated he’d be interested in teaming up with Bieniemy again.

There’s one problem with assigning Bieniemy to Vic Fangio’s similar role with the Philadelphia Eagles during the postseason last year. Even though the Washington Commanders fired head coach Ron Rivera on Black Monday, the team plans to keep their assistants, including Bieniemy, under contract until they hire a new head of football operations.

But would the Commanders be willing to let go of Bieniemy a couple of weeks early in order to receive draft compensation? The Commanders are looking to rebuild under new owner Josh Harris. The Chiefs are in win-now mode.

This proposal sends Bieniemy to the Kansas City Chiefs

The Commanders aren’t likely to keep their assistants for next season, and the Chiefs only need Bieniemy as temperature help for the postseason. The Chiefs would likely consider giving up a late Day 3 pick for Bieniemy.

The Commanders would receive a little compensation for their rebuild by giving the Chiefs Bieniemy for a week to a month. After all, the Commanders would be free to interview Bieniemy or hire him as their head coach as soon as the Chiefs season ends.

The Chiefs’ season could end quickly, even with Bieniemy. The Chiefs wide receivers led the league in drops during the regular season. Maybe Bieniemy can help with accountability there, but he won’t be the one catching passes from Mahomes.
