In the 49ers’ first playoff game this season, they could play one of four teams: The Buccaneers, the Eagles, the Rams and the Packers.
Which team would the 49ers most like to face?
Probably not the Rams — they’re one of the hottest teams in the NFL. Just a few weeks ago, they beat the Cleveland Browns, who beat the 49ers this season. Which means the Rams are legit. They have an elite, Super-Bowl-winning quarterback and excellent offensive weapons around him. They’re dangerous.
The 49ers probably would prefer not to face the Packers, either, considering their quarterback, Jordan Love, might be better than 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy. Both certainly are exceptionally promising young quarterbacks. Love in particular has the mobility and arm strength to give the 49ers defense problems.
The Buccaneers wouldn’t scare the 49ers a bit — the Niners beat them already just a few weeks ago. Tampa Bay is a decidedly mediocre team, and their quarterback, Baker Mayfield, is good, but not good enough to beat the 49ers, as we know already.
Which brings us to the Eagles, the team that beat the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game last season, and the team that currently has lost five of its past six games. The Eagles are playing like a team that is trying to get its head coach fired. Their defense gave up the third-most points in the NFL this season, and the 49ers already shredded it in Philadelphia.
