Enzo Maresca has stated that Yunus Akgun and Abdul Fatawu are both at their best on the right wing. The manager now has six choices for the two wide positions.

newest hires Both Yunus Akgun and Abdul Fatawu will compete for a Leicester City jersey as they go head-to-head for the right wing position.

Yunus and Fatawu made their home debuts on Saturday in the 1-0 loss to Hull after being recruited on loans from Galatasaray and Sporting Lisbon, respectively, in the final week of the window. The Turk started on the right before being substituted by a Ghanaian for the final 35 minutes.

Although they occasionally played inside or on the left, both players have spent the majority of their careers on the right-hand flank. Manager Enzo Maresca claims he will use them on the right side, where they are most useful.

Maresca described Fatawu as “very good in one versus one, very quick.” But he needs time because he was born in 2004. But he will undoubtedly assist us. When I saw him at Sporting, he was typically playing on the right side.

“Macca (Kasey McAteer) was there too. He scored two goals. Wanya (Marcal) also played there and he scored a goal. So we have different options. But surely Yunus and Abdul prefer to play on the right flank.

As Maresca points out, City used three different players on the right wing before Yunus and Fatawu arrived, with McAteer, Marcal and Marc Albrighton alternating in positions. On Saturday, McAteer played on the left wing, Marcal was an unused substitute and Albrighton didn’t even come on from the bench.

When Harvey Barnes was sold to Newcastle in July, he left City with only one recognized senior winger, but with the promotion of McAteer and Marcal from the reserves and signing of three players – Stephy Mavididi also joined the club – that now appears to be one of their strongest positions.
