Journalist Graeme Bailey has revealed Tottenham Hotspur have opted to sign Brennan Johnson over former Celtic winger Jota, who has been offered to join the north London club at the end of the transfer window.

While Johnson may not yet be an established superstar, he has arrived at Tottenham with great fame, showing plenty of promise during his Premier League debut campaign last season.

Reports in recent days indicate that Ange Postecoglou has identified the 22-year-old as his main attack target and Spurs believe they have signed one of English football’s finest talents. (Telegraph).

Some may have raised eyebrows at the £47.5m fee Tottenham paid for the Wales international, but Bailey believes the Lilywhites have an “incredible player”.

Spurs have been offered former Celtic star Jota this week
There were hints towards the end of the transfer window that Spurs were warned after Al Ittihad let Jota in (90 minutes) and Bailey has now confirmed Postecoglou has been given the chance to reunite the Portuguese winger.

The journalist said on the Talking Transfers podcast:
“He is a great signing, I think.

“It was clear that Ange wanted this type of player and they also suggested Jota, who could soon return from Saudi Arabia. I think Johnson is an incredible player and will become a fan favorite there.

We’ve heard from a number of independent and reliable sources that Postecoglou really wants Johnson, which is probably why Spurs paid close to £50m for the 22-year-old. It will be interesting to see how the Australian player takes advantage of the former Forest star.
