Chelsea and Tottenham both failed to qualify for European football last season leaving them with less fixtures to contend with in the 2023/24 campaign

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes Chelsea and Tottenham’s lack of European football this season represents a “huge advantage” over their Premier League rivals fighting for a top-four spot. . Last season, the Reds qualified for the Europa League, but the Blues and Spurs missed out on European qualification in the Premier League.

Despite missing out on European football, Chelsea and Tottenham invested heavily in their squads over the summer, signing new players. Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t had a great season so far, but Ange Postecoglou’s side remain unbeaten after six games.

Despite problems for Chelsea on and off the pitch, Klopp feels that Pochettino’s team, along with Spurs, have a huge advantage in the race for the top four this season. “Chelsea and Tottenham have no European football,” Klopp said on Friday ahead of Liverpool’s match against Tottenham on Saturday afternoon.

Getting into the Champions League this year will be a massive, difficult task because they will be well rested,” the Liverpool boss added. However, fewer fixtures to play can sometimes be a worse situation for teams given that it could lead to players losing rhythm and confidence with a longer rest period.
