The NFL has issued another questionable fine in its effort to take away unnecessary contact with the helmet. This time, the recipient in question was Detroit Lions star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.

In the first quarter of the Lions’ Week 10 game against the Chicago Bears, St. Brown blocked Bears defensive back Jaquan Brisker on a run play. The play only went for about six yards and St. Brown’s block was ultimately insignificant.

A week later, however, that block proved to be surprisingly costly when the NFL fined St. Brown more than $43,000 for it. According to the league, the fine was due to St. Brown lowering his helmet as he initiated the block on Brisker.

As he’s continued to do throughout the season, former player J.J. Watt ripped the league for the move.

“Here we go again…” Watt said on Twitter. General rule of thumb: If you have to watch the video multiple times to try figuring out which person did something wrong and you still can’t figure it out, we probably shouldn’t be taking $43,709 from someone.

This. Is. Stealing. Money.”

Watt hasn’t been the only one critical of the NFL’s enforcement of the new safety protocols. Tom Brady has also called out the rules and even claimed they’re creating a worse product on the field.
