he ambitious signing of Kylian Mbappe for Liverpool could suddenly become affordable if they managed to cash in on star forward Mohamed Salah.

By the start of the upcoming season, the Egypt international will be 32 years old and may no longer be at the height of his abilities, casting some question on his long-term future with Liverpool.

The Athletic has looked at how LFC could replace Salah after he was aggressively connected with teams in Saudi Arabia at the end of the summer.

The Paris Saint-Germain superstar Mbappe is mentioned in The Athletic’s article as someone who might be a bit of a dream option, albeit one that is a little more possible if there is money to spend and room on the wage bill from moving Salah.

However, it’s also acknowledged that Real Madrid surely remain the big favourites to sign Mbappe if he ends up leaving PSG.

Liverpool would do very well to land a marquee signing of that calibre, but it’s probably not going to happen even if the money is there.

The Athletic also look at the likes of Bukayo Saka and Jarrod Bowen as potential candidates for the Reds in attack.
