Bruno Guimaraes of Newcastle United was the target of a rumoured £100 million approach from Liverpool made near the close of the summer transfer season.

The Merseyside giants’ search for new faces in the engine room was mainly unsuccessful throughout the offseason and the first few weeks of the new season.

After 2022–2023, Alexis Mac Allister was purchased from Brighton & Hove Albion, but Jurgen Klopp and the team were unable to sign the star player they were after—a defensively-minded and aggressive player.

Although Klopp still has potential in the middle with Stefan Bajcetic available in addition to Endo and Mac Allister, it has been said that Liverpool was willing to smash their transfer record to expand his alternatives.

AS claims that Liverpool was ready to spend £100 million on Guimaraes in the final week before the end of the fiscal year in January.

In keeping Liverpool out of the top four spots in the Premier League standings, Newcastle responded as was predicted by giving one of their key players “a resounding no.”

The article also states that because Guimaraes’ current contract is set to expire in 2026, Liverpool is likely to keep an eye on the Brazilian international.

With only three points from their first four games, including a loss to Liverpool, Newcastle is currently in last place in the Premier League.

Since smashing Aston Villa on the opening weekend of the season, Eddie Howe’s team has lost three straight games—the others coming to Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion.

In total, Guimaraes has made 61 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 10 goals and dishing out six assists in that time. He has started each of those games.

The 25-year-old was acquired by Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022 for somewhere over £40 million.
