During the five-hour meeting, the board discussed whether the club needed to prepare for the scenario in which Goodwin would be sacked if the Demons’ form dropped off, if he couldn’t “cope” with being coach, or if his alleged off-field behaviour flared up. It’s been two wins and two draws for our boys in blue to start the season as we currently sit second on the Isuzu UTE A-League ladder. Although it’s been an undefeated start to 2023/24, captain Roderick Miranda feels that the team could easily have two more wins on the board. “In terms of performance, I think everybody’s really happy with the way we’re playing,” he said.

“Everybody is in a good place at the moment, we’re playing positive football and everybody’s confident. “Of course, we feel we could have all 12 points, but football, sometimes it’s like this. “Even more important, the fans are coming back and starting to believe in us again.” With the team looking to improve each week, one player that’s stood out to Roddy so far this season is Olyroo and former teammate, Ryan Teague. “I’ve played with him in Portugal on his first overseas experience, he’s a really good kid,” the 32-year-old said. “He’s playing really well and the team has helped him to settle into the A-League. “With the team performing well, it’s been even better for him to be able to show his potential and his quality. “Everybody’s really happy for him.

After a strong start to the season at home, the team is now set for three matches on the road as we face Macarthur, Central Coast and Western Sydney. “It’s a strange schedule, to be honest. But it is what it is,” Roddy said. “Now we have three away games. It’s three really difficult games against tough opponents. “We need to make sure we have the same mentality that we had at home. “Each game we go into we want the three points, but we need to be focused, we need to be humble because they will be tough games.”
