Spurs captain Heung-Min Son has strict marriage rules that stem from his father.
Her son’s father, Son Woong-jung, a former professional footballer, was known to give him tough love and subject him to four-hour supervision sessions when he was young.
He also rejected claims that he was world class and demanded more from Son. But his strongest opinion is that the former Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen player should not get married until he retires from football.
He feels his career should be his top priority and Son tends to agree.
“My dad said this and I also agree,” Son said in an interview with The Guardian.
“When you get married, number one will be family, wife and children, then football. I want to make sure that when I play at the highest level, football can be number one. You don’t know how much longer you can do it. Play at the highest level. “When you retire, or when you are 33 or 34 years old, you can still live a long life with your family.
Son has reportedly dated Korean stars Bang Min-ah and Yoo So-young in the past, confirming his relationship with the latter in November 2015.
They split in 2016 and So-young revealed that she didn’t know who son was at first when they started dating, with her football knowledge not too sharp.
“Yes! I like watching soccer but I don’t know which player is who,” This is the first time I’m revealing this but I didn’t know who he was at first.” So-young said on the Jung Young Jin and Choi Wook’s Fiery Friday Night Show.
“‘I’m sorry. I only know about Ahn Jung Hwan’. He seemed very startled. He asked me, ‘You don’t know me?’ My friend spoke up for me and explained that I really don’t know who he is. I was having a meal with my peers and I got to meet him while I was with them. We didn’t meet at a club.”
Son has become a huge star in his native Korea and the 2021/22 Premier League Golden Boot is currently the Samsung Galaxy brand ambassador.
He appears in commercials and due to his involvement, he has recently been unable to hold fans’ phones to take selfies.
