LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — A Carroll County man was shot and killed inside a gun store Saturday, when a customer accidentally fired a gun he considered buying.

Kentucky State Police said in a news release Monday that troopers responded Saturday night to the report of a shooting at Humphrey Double H Farms Enterprises Inc. on Whites Run Road, just south of Interstate 71 in Carroll County.

Troopers found a victim inside being treated by EMS for a gunshot wound. The initial investigation, KSP said, found that a customer inside the store “was viewing a firearm for sale and manipulating it” when a single shot fired, hitting someone else in the store.

The man, identified Monday as 50-year-old Chad Wainscott, of Worthville, Kentucky, was transported to the hospital, where he died.

KSP said after cooperation with the person who was handling the gun and interviews conducted with witnesses, no charges are pending.
