Sandro Tonali, a midfielder for Newcastle United, was seen hugging former manager Stefano Pioli before Italy’s crucial Euro 2024 qualifier against Ukraine at the San Siro. Tonali was a teammate of Pioli’s at AC Milan during the 2021/22 season, when the 57-year-old assisted in leading the Rossoneri to their first Scudetto in almost ten years.

Just one week before their Champions League matchup, Tonali and Pioli were seen holding hands outside the San Siro, where Italy will play Ukraine this evening. Tonali, though, is not anticipated to play in Italy’s match today evening after he apparently sustained a “slight muscle injury” while on tour with the Azzurri.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United will be sweating over Tonali’s fitness ahead of Saturday’s clash with Brentford at St James’ Park. Tonali’s possible injury is a growing headache for Eddie Howe, who will certainly be without Joe Willock as he recovers from injury.

Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes, who have been Tonali’s preferred partners so far this season, are both on international duty with Brazil and are unlikely to return to Tyneside to train with the team until Thursday.

The foundation is just to play the game a certain way, which I believe brings success but also excites the punters.”
