Leeds player reached an agreement to join a German club for £17 million.

Willy Gnonto is said to have “favored” joining Bundesliga side Freiburg this summer – and even agreed to personal terms. But Leeds stopped Gnonto from moving.

Gnonto, 19, remains at Leeds this summer despite refusing to play three games and has attracted interest from Everton, other Premier League clubs, Serie A and Freiburg.

In a somewhat tug-of-war chess match, Daniel Farke came out on top – with Gnonto back in the game and deadlines passed with no club meeting our asking price. Luis Sinisterra went there. Now, after retaining the Italian prodigy, BILD reports that Freiburg is interested and the player is keen to join the German team. He even agreed to personal terms regarding a possible move.

Indeed, Freiburg sees Gnonto as a dream signing – reportedly. But Leeds wanted more than Freiburg was willing to pay – just £17m. In the end, a decision will never take place this summer. Honestly, Freiburg could be a good move for Gnonto. An ambitious team, trusted by the youth. Gnonto could have easily started for the German side – and they are in the Europa League this season.

So Gnonto should have been playing top football every week for a club that was also in the European group stage. But he is in Leeds instead and will stay in Yorkshire until at least January.
