Paintsil claim

The Whites were among a number of clubs linked with Joseph Paintsil over the summer transfer window. The Genk forward ended up staying put, and has now claimed he turned down the chance to move to Elland Road and Championship rivals Southampton.

I’m still here, Paintsil said to Het Laatste Nieuws via Sport Witness. There were numerous speculations and opportunities. I knew right away that I didn’t want to leave Genk for Southampton or Leeds United when my agent suggested those clubs.

“Look, every player has certain expectations. My dream is to one day play in the Premier League. Or at least in a top-five European league.

“I don’t want to say that Southampton and Leeds are bad teams, but they couldn’t convince me. After my performances I expected more last season. I want to have another season here to see which clubs offer themselves.

“I also believe in our team. Despite the departure of Mike (Trésor, to Burnley), we are still strong. Based on our qualities, we can play for the title again, just like last year

McLean extension

Reports suggest Leeds ha three separate requests rejected for Kenny McLean before the club moved on to other targets. Daniel Farke has finally bolstered his ranks with the latest signings of Ilia Gruev and Glen Kamara, with Sky Sports suggesting the final price tag for the Canaries midfielder has reached around £4m.

Norwich confirmed on Friday that McLean has now agreed a new deal at Carrow Road, with the Scotland international extending his stay until 2026, with the club having the option of a further year. The 31 year old man said:

“I’ve had success at this club with a couple of promotions and league titles and I’m hungry for more. That’s why I want to be here because I know we have the same goals and ambitions.
