Destiny Udogie suffered racist abuse on social media following Tottenham’s 2-1 win over Liverpool on Saturday evening

Liverpool have issued a statement regarding the racist abuse Tottenham defender Destiny Oudogie suffered after Saturday afternoon’s Premier League match. The Italian left-back was subjected to racial abuse on social media following his side’s dramatic 2-1 win over Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Spurs released a statement today condemning the “disgusting” comments made against Udogie. A statement on Tottenham’s official website read:

“We are outraged by the racist messages directed at Destiny Udogie on social media after Saturday’s game against Liverpool.

“We will work with the Premier League and, where possible, take action against any individual we are able to identify. We stand with you, Destiny.”

Now, Liverpool have joined Spurs in releasing their own statement regarding the matter. The Reds’ statement read: “Liverpool FC condemns all forms of racism and discrimination and will work with the relevant authorities and social media platforms to help identify those responsible and apply the strongest possible consequences.”

The 20-year-old was involved in one of the big talking points of the match in the second half, but unfortunately became the victim of racist abuse online after the match. Liverpool, already down by one man after Curtis Jones’ red card, were down to nine men in the 69th minute after Diogo Jota was sent off for two offenses.

He is believed to have fouled Udogi on both occasions, and appeared to have had minimal contact with the left-back during his first yellow card of the tournament, but immediately afterwards he was charged with a foul against the Italian. He committed a foul and was subsequently shown a red card. Spurs won the game in the final seconds when Joel Matip’s cross was deflected into their own net by Pedro Polo.
