Four teams that should trade for Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker

Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Christian Walker put himself in the national spotlight this week by continuing his dominance of the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.

But for as impressive as his hitting is in Chavez Ravine, he is not just a one-trick pony. He can hit everywhere, and there are quite a few contenders around Major League Baseball that should be interested in trading for him before the July 30, 6 p.m. ET trade deadline.

Walker is a free agent after this season, and with the Diamondbacks facing an uphill climb in the National League playoff race, he figures to be one of the top players available.

Houston Astros

The Astros are making a rapid climb up the American League West standings and are not going to go away without a fight. But with Jose Abreu’s play falling off a cliff, they have a significant hole in their lineup at first base.

According to baseball insider Jon Heyman, Walker is at the top of the Astros’ wishlist and would represent a massive upgrade over what they are currently getting from stopgap option Jon Singleton. Walker’s .871 OPS is his third consecutive year over the .800 mark, while he is on pace to hit 30 home runs for a third straight year.
