James Maddison admitted that he and Son Heung-min are starting to understand each other better about their playing style.

Son has an almost telepathic understanding with Harry Kane, as the England captain often watches the Korean player’s runs without even looking up.

The pair have scored more goals than any other duo in Premier League history, but following Kane’s departure, it seems the new Spurs captain is starting to have a similar understanding with Maddison.

The pair scored twice at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday as Spurs earned a hard-fought draw in the North London Derby.

Son now seems to have nailed down the central striker role, having scored five goals in the three matches that he has started as a number nine.

Son and Maddison built a partnership with Spurs

Maddison admitted that his partnership with the Tottenham captain is still a work in progress, but he explained that he is now starting to understand his teammate’s running style better.

The attacking midfielder told Viaplay:

“In recent weeks, Sonny has become more central and played as a number 9, then as a number 8 or 10.

You normally want to have a nice relationship with your striker because when you get turned he’s the one you are looking for.

“And Sonny is such a good guy that we get on really off the pitch which helps on the pitch. In training when we are working on little through balls and it’s still early, we are still figuring each other out.

“But I’m starting to know what he likes, his movements, and hopefully that can continue.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Maddison has played with someone with quite similar attributes to Son in Jamie Vardy, who like the South Korean, was quite adept at making runs in behind the backline. So, the 26-year-old should have no trouble quickly adapting to playing alongside the South Korean.
